On April 22, 2008 the Board of Directors will hold a public hearing to discuss a proposed ordinance that among other things will restrict the installation of any new landscape that uses district water for irrigation purposes.
During my tenure as a Board member, there were many discussions regarding the need for more stringent restrictions on the use of water for irrigation purposes. I always attempted to bring an elemet of balance moderation to that discussion. It appears that the current board is considering taking an extreme approach.
I understand clearly the need to use our resources in a responsible manner, but to pass an ordinance that says "zero" use for new outdoor irrigatiion in my opinion is inappropriate. I would recommend that the Board reject the current proposed ordinance in favor of evaluating options that would not be as extreme.
